Zamia furfuracea (Cardboard Cycad)
A very robust landscaping plant which will grow in full sun to part shade. The leaves are long and tend to remain horizontal (especially if grown in shade) with rounded leaflets which are particularly stiff and thick with a furry texture.
The Cardboard Cycad has earnt its spot as one of the most popular landscaping cycads in Australia. The rounded leaflets and hardy nature makes for a very versatile plant. Due to the robust foliage and rounded leaves, it can be used in areas with high foot traffic where other more 'spiky' cycads are not suitable.
This cycad tends to be quite slow when young, but once the stem starts maturing (after a few years), then growth will be much quicker.
Cardboard Cycads are generally pest and disease resistant, and will not be plagued by the dreaded Cycad Blue Butterfly (Theclinesthes onycha).
