Philodendron rubrijuvenile (El Choco Red)
A very rare philodenron with satin, almost velvet heart shaped leaves and prominent green leaf veins. When young, the leaves have a bright red undersides this fades to green as the plant matures. Best grown on a totem pole.
A must have for any serious aroid collector.
The Philodendron El Choco Red comes from the rainforests of the El Chocó region of Colombia, giving it its name.
Its scientific name is Philodendron rubrijuvenilum, meaning “red when juvenile”. It is an epiphyte (climbing variety) that doesn’t grow in soil in the wild. Instead, they have aerial roots (above-ground) that climb on trees.
