Larsenianthus careyanus (Praying Mantis Ginger)
A hardy landscaping plant with slightly wrinkled, dark green compact foliage. Green and white bracts form at the top of each stem, which then gets small delicate white flowers. A great midstory filler in shady spots in the garden.
Typical height: 1.5m
Climate: Prefers tropical or subtropical climates, or warm protected areas in Temperate climates (eg. Sydney)
Light conditions: Prefers part shade
Growth habit: Tight clumping
Growing conditions: Moist well drained soil, rich in organic matter
Flowers: Summer / Autumn
Origin: Bangladesh / North East India
The Larsenianthus careyanus is a relatively rare ginger species which was only botanically named 2010. Its one of the latest additions to the Bamboo Land ginger collection, and a species which shows much promise as a landscaping plant.
