Sometimes called copper plants, Acalypha are colourful fast growing upright evergreen shrubs native to the South pacific, where they are grown for their ornamental and medicinal properties. 

Leaf colour develops best in brightly lit areas. Reddish flowers are borne in long spikes at the end of branches but are not significant when compared to the plants dramatic foliage. Prefers humid and bright conditions. 

Salt tolerant and prefers some protection from strong winds. Plants may be damaged by drought and frost. Likes to dry out slightly between waterings. 

An all round fertiliser may be applied during the growing season. Higher potash levels will help boost leaf colour. Plants respond well to cutting back and benefit from an annual trim to keep their shape.
