World Bamboo Day 2024
Author: Marta Hackett Date Posted:24 September 2024
World Bamboo Day, celebrated on September 18th each year, was established to promote the many benefits of bamboo including its environment, economic, and cultural significance. Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants of Earth, with the new shoots of mature bamboo plants growing up to 1 meter in a day! Bamboo plays a crucial role in supporting biodiversity as well as providing a sustainable resource.
Free Guided Tours
Our free guided tours of the parklands were a unique feature of the day. Janne Nilsson, the owner of Bamboo Land, hosted two tours for our visitors. One at 10am with 38 people and one at 2pm with 22 people on the tour.
Visitors marveled at the towering plants which swayed gracefully in the wind. Throughout the tours, the enthusiasm for the bamboo was contagious, sparking connections amoung the participants who would ask questions to understand how different bamboo species grow and how they can be maintained.
Bamboo & Burgers
We invited a local food truck, Hoolys Hotbox out to help feed our guests for the day, and it was a pleasant surprise to learn that they had sold out early. Their mouthwatering burgers were such a hit! The flavours added a delightful touch to the day which helped fuel everyone to keep exploring the beauty of the parklands.
Artistic Expression
Another highlight was our talented guests, the Urban Sketchers Maryborough group, who were invited to run one of their sessions for the day. They beautifully captured the essence of not only the bamboo, but other plants, garden ornaments and arbours, too. To see the unique interpretation of our space was inspiring!
Unique Treasures
We were also excited to have our original bamboo man, Klas, join us. He showcased his unique crystals and Australian opals. His collection added a unique sparkle to the event, attracting many who were eager to learn about these natural wonders and even take home a souvenir.
Join us next time!
If you missed out on this celebration, don't worry! We have more events planned and we can't wait to share our beautiful parklands with you.
Thank you to everyone who made this day so special!
